Children love doing real things.

Watch a child at play and you’ll see it immediately — pretending to be a parent, a teacher, a doctor… or a chef. They copy the world around them, experimenting with independence, confidence and creativity. Real-world play is powerful, and few places bring it to life quite like the kitchen. Cooking is hands-on, creative, a little messy, and full of small moments of pride.

But when I started cooking with my daughter, I realised something was missing. While there are plenty of children’s cookbooks and videos, most are still designed for adults to lead. Children help, but they rarely get to take charge. I wanted something that truly invited children into the process — something simple, approachable and designed for them.

Cooking has always been personal to me. It’s my therapy and my creative outlet. It’s where I slow down, experiment, and show love to the people around me. But I also know that many people feel the opposite — cooking can feel intimidating or stressful, especially when we’ve become disconnected from how food is actually made.

At the same time, children today are surrounded by abundance. Endless options, constant entertainment, screens and toys designed to be used once and forgotten. Yet what children really crave is agency — the chance to participate, to repeat, to improve and to feel capable.

That belief is at the heart of We Chef.

We Chef is about bringing children into the real experience of cooking — with simple recipes, accessible ingredients and space for curiosity, mistakes and discovery. Because when children feel ownership of the process, cooking becomes more than just making food.

It becomes confidence, creativity and connection.

The books are designed around the way children naturally learn — through real tasks, simple choices and repetition. Each recipe encourages children to take the lead, building confidence step by step. The series follows an A–Z journey of ingredients and recipes, helping children explore the world of food in a way that feels structured, achievable and fun.
